What is a Sunroom?
A sunroom is a room that consists of walls mostly made of windows (composted of single or double pane glass), which bring in sunlight but protect you from the wind, snow, rain, and bugs. A sunroom will let you enjoy the outdoors in comfort. Sunrooms are used for various things, like a dining area, family room, workroom with great lighting, playroom for children, craft or exercise room, or a place to read, relax, and nap. The location of your sunroom depends how you intend to use the room and what region you live in. However, most sunrooms are added to the back of homes since majority are used for leisure and relaxation.
What kind is right for you?
When building your sunroom, you will want to determine the materials and size of the room based on how you plan to use it. There are mainly two types of material that sunrooms are made from, vinyl and aluminum. Aluminum sunrooms have been around for decades while vinyl sunrooms have just recently been on the market, and tend to cost more. If you plan on using you sunroom when it is extremely hot or cold, vinyl is the better choice. Vinyl sunrooms are strong, durable, and are thermally efficient. They have double paned glass, which is the best insulation for year-round use. Aluminum sunrooms provide more structural support, are strong, lightweight, and also cost efficient. The windows are either single or double paned glass, making the sunroom more commonly known as a three-season room.
Sunrooms can save you money
Building a sunroom costs money up front, but in the long run the sunroom room will save you money and is worth it. A well-insulated sunroom can absorb substantial amounts of solar energy and disperse it through the rest of the house, reducing the amount of energy needed to keep the house warm in the winter months. A sunroom can provide enough heat as a small heater can, but with a lot less bill at the end of the month. A sunroom can also help keep the overall house cool in the summer by dispersing the energy and air the same way, especially with the help of a ceiling fan to create the air movement.
